What is Western Style Square Dance?
Western Style Square Dance is a lively and engaging dance form that brings people together in a fun and friendly environment. Taught across the United States and worldwide, this dance is perfect for all ages and skill levels. Keep an eye out for our upcoming classes at the Country Squares, where you will learn the art of Square Dance from start to finish!

How soon will I be dancing?
From the moment you step into the class, you will be dancing within just 5 minutes. Our welcoming environment is perfect for beginners aged 12 and up, ensuring you leave each session eager for the next. Don't miss out on the fun and camaraderie that square dancing brings!

What should I wear?
For classes, dress comfortably and to match the weather. Jeans, shorts, etc. and all acceptable. For dances, we see the gamut; from jeans to fancy western outfits and traditional square dance dresses. Many of our dances have special themes. At these dances, many wear theme-related costumes. Costumes are not required.

What does it cost?
Classes cost $6 per session (the first two lessons are free.)
Dances range from $6-$8.
Do I have to bring a partner?
No, the club provides experience square dancers, called Angels, to help you learn the steps.
What if I have two left feet?
There's no such thing as two left feet in square dancing. If you can walk, you will be able to square dance.
What if I am too shy or have a social disorder?
This is the perfect activity for you! The members of Claxton Country Squares are supportive and friendly. Perhaps on your first visit you may choose to just listen and watch, that is OK. But before you know it, you will be dancing...and who knows, you might just find your new favorite activity! Many shy people have blossomed in this environment.
What if I am having trouble learning it?
No worries, the caller/teacher will go over it again and again until everyone learns the call. His goal it so make sure everyone succeeds.
What's the difference between Western style square dance and Appalachian?
Modern Western square dance is a dynamic evolution of traditional square dancing, characterized by more complex choreography, a wider range of calls, and often incorporates contemporary music styles. It's a social activity that combines physical activity with mental stimulation and camaraderie.
Appalachian square dance is an American hybrid that incorporates elements of dance traditions from a variety of cultures.is a form of folk dance. Two types of square dance are part of the set dance tradition. One is a square set which consists of four couples. The other is a circular set that can include any number of couples.
Calls from Modern Western square dance differ from the calls of Appalachian square dance.
